Year Round Calendar Frequently Asked Questions
What is a year-round school schedule?
The year-round schedule is also known as a balanced calendar. That’s because classroom time and school breaks are more balanced over the course of the year. The year-round schedule provides students and teachers with the same number of instructional days (182) but means a shorter summer vacation offset by additional breaks throughout the year.
Why is Imagine Schools on Broadway switching to a year-round schedule?
We believe that the year-round calendar will offer our students an exciting opportunity to grow academically, develop as a whole, and experience joy at school all year long. The Imagine Schools on Broadway Board of Directors voted in favor of the change in December 2010. Our school’s charter authorizer, Ball State University’s Office of Charter Schools, approved the change earlier this year. We surveyed parents and teachers and receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback in favor of the change.
Are any other local public schools on a year-round schedule?
Although year-round calendars have been approved by school districts in other parts of the state, including Indianapolis, Imagine Schools on Broadway’s year-round schedule is unique to the Fort Wayne area. Currently, Imagine Schools on Broadway is the only local public school to offer this innovative educational opportunity.

Students also tend to have lower rates of absenteeism and a more positive attitude toward school in general.
